Ask Corry A Question

Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
Hello, I have tried for years to find a sent that does not stink on my skin. I've tried numerous samples from numerous brands, including expensive perfumes and eau de toilettes, and almost all scents I've tried smell the same once they touch my skin - the way I and others describe it is that I smell like I'm wearing an elderly lady's sent. Even some scented creams smell this way on my skin. The only fragrance that I've found that does not immediately smell this way is happy by clinique, so I wear it from time to time, although it is not the sent I would prefer. My preference would be a clean, fresh smell. (Happy smells to sweet, and eventually does start to stink on my skin). Do you have any insight into why most scents smell identical (and unpleasant) on my skin? Might you possible have some suggested fragrances that I could try? Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I received some scents for Christmas (Cashmere Mist by DonnaKaran and Beautiful by Estee Lauder) and unfortunately it looks like Ill have to give them away as they produce that same stick on my skin. Any insight into this matter would be most appreciated.

Thank You,

Raechel
Dear Raechel,

It looks like, your body chemistry does not cooperate with your wish to smell good.
If any fragrance smells bad on you, you have to ask yourself what is the cause.
A lot of things can cause this problem.
I will mention a few, but do not be surprised if it is a combination of things.

Smoking
Eating a lot of Garlic, onions or curry etc.
Drinking too much alcohol
Certain Medications
Using bars of soap under the shower instead of shower gels Specifically deodorant soaps.
Too high acidity in your skin.
etc

In the end, if no changes in any of the above gives you the desired result, I would spray a fragrance anywhere else but my body.
Spray some fragrance on your (clean) hair.
Try spraying a piece of cloth and carry that with you (not against your body of course).

Hope this will help you smell better.
Best regards
Corry
Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
Why are most men's fragrances Eau de toilette (EDT) and not of greater concentration? From what I've read, EDT lasts only up to 6 hours. Also, is there a reference that lists how long designer fragrances last?
Thanks.
J
Dear J
Thank you for contacting me.
The strength of a fragrance is not regulated like in the food industry.
In general, the lightest version is Cologne, the next is Eau de Toilette then comes Eau de Parfum and the strongest is Parfum or Perfume.
For marketing purposes this industry is reluctant to put the name Eau de Parfum on Mens fragrances although a lot of them make the Eau de Toilettes as strong as Eau de Parfums.
A few companies who are realy known for there long lasting properties:

Bond # 9 makes very long lasting fragrances, some of them lasting all day.
Clive Christian only makes Perfumes (also for men)and will stay on.
Creed as well as Amouage are also very highly concentrated fragrances as well.
Keep in mind a fresh lemony fragrance (what happens a lot in the mens department) will never last more than a few hours, no matter how strong you make it.
It's just not the charactaristic of the ingredients!
Hope this answers your questions.
Best regards

Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
I recently tried a cologne by Demeter called Fig Leaf. While I loved the scent (it smelled exactly like fig leaves), the fragrance didn't last very long. Can you recommend a perfume that is similar, but more concentrated?

Thanks,
April
Dear April,
Best recommendation is the Fleur de Figuier by Molinard.
It is a good long lasting Fig fragrance.
We don't have this one listed on our site, but you can call us at 1 800 326 1632 to order.
Thank you.

Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
Hi,
My favorite perfumes (Ivoire de Balmain and Bandit) both contain wormwood (artemisia) which is what absinthe is made of. When I looked this up the info said it was a toxic herb and should be used with great care and not long-term. When ingredients like these are used in perfumes, are the dangerous toxins taken out, or are synthetics used or are the amounts used so small that it just doesn't matter? I'm a little concerned since I use these fragrances everyday and would like to continue to do so.
Thanks,
Janice
Dear Janice,
Thank you for contacting me.
Absinthe made with wormwood as one of its ingredients is banned all over the world (except Spain). For the U.S. this ban took place in 1912.
The artemisia (wormwood) part of absinthe is replaced by numerous other "legal" ingredients.
All of the above is pertaining to Absinthe, the drink or liquor if you like.
I do not have a current ingredient list of both of the fragrances you mentioned, but I doubt you drink these great fragrances.
If artemisia is used in these fragrances it must be a artificial replacement.
In case I find any more information on this subject I will get that to you.
In the mean time, Enjoy your fragrances.
Best regards.

Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
Hi there

I am looking for a very good tan accelerator to buy and am getting confused with all the choices out there...can you recommend some?

Thanks
Lancaster's Tan Deepener is excellent if you already have a base tan.
Lancaster's After Sun Maximizer is very good to prolong the tan.
Both are available at our Lancaster page

Good Luck!

Your Question: Our Expert's Answer:
What product would you recommend for puffiness under the eyes. I am in my late forties but do not have any lines. I am looking for an eye treatment that will help reduce the bags. Thanks

Dawn
Dear Dawn,

Thank you for contacting me.

The best results I have seen is from using Darphin's Vitaserum Eye contour 40 and the Arovita eye and lip contour gel in combination.
Both of these products are available on our site.

Hope to hear from you soon again.
Corry
